Two young fencers from the Isle of Man Fencing Club, Siobhan Ives
14, from Onchan and Steven Caley 11, from Port Erin. took part in the
British Youth Championship finals at the weekend.
Siobhan, fencing in the U14 age group was seeded 24th after the
initial Poules of 62 fencers.
After winning her first Direct Elimination fight against Lynda
Fuller ,15 - 5, Siobhan then lost her next DE against Emma-Tina Segall 5 -
15.
Finishing in the last 32, Siobhan's final position was 23rd.
Siobhan is off to Paris with the England under 15 'TA' Squad in two
weeks time competing against hundreds of fencers from 30 other countries.
Steven Caley, competing in the U12 age group of 61 fencers, was
ranked 25th after the initial poule rounds.
His first DE was against Euan McArthur, Channel Islands, Steven won
this 10 -6,
2nd DE; Steven beat the number 8 seed, Joel Wilson, London, 9-8.
3rd DE; Steven beat James Morgan from Wales 10 - 9
4th DE (Last 8), Steven lost to the Number One seed, from the South
East region, 5 - 10.
Steven finally finish 5th in this his first ever major event.
