Manx Fencing Association

Brief History of the M.F.A
Known as 'Manx Fencing' we were formed in 1990 by a group of dedicated fencers and coaches. We put together a strong management committee, joined the A.F.A (British Fencing) and produced a '5 year plan' for the IoM Sports Council.  Since then we have helped and introduced lots of Men, Women and Children into the Modern Sport of Fencing.

Developing the best in Fencing.
Fencing, like so many other sports has had a lot of changes in the Rules, Technique, Styles of Teaching etc. We like to think that we, at Manx Fencing , have moved with the times. We employ the services of Professional Coaches from the British Academy of Fencing and Hungarian Fencing Master Robert Kiss. Our own coaches are also sent away every year on BAF & BFA coaching events to keep them up to date with the latest ideas, plus refreshing existing skills.  Our fencers are trained in all aspects of fencing and are given all round support: Academy/Squad members fence twice a week; take part in squad work three times a week, plus individual lessons and fitness training.

Fencing Clubs:
We have also helped to set up, manage and coach the following Isle Of Man clubs:

Competitions:
Since 1990 we organized & ran The IOM Fencing Championships, &  The IOM Novices, This is now the job of the IOMFA.

Now we run the Manx Fencing Championships, age grouped & team. & individual. The Bob Carter and the Golden Helmet team event, plus wheelchair events.

We have fencers that compete at all levels: World Championships, European , Commonwealth Championships, plus ‘Open’ and regional events throughout the UK.
